Whistler Blackcomb is the annual favorite for everyone. The place has many slopes of varying difficulties and more lifts have been opened up this season. Also new is the Blackcomb Gondola which runs from the Upper Village to the new Rendezvous Lodge; the Gondola goes at least 4 kilometers upwards and can transport nearly 4,000 tourists every hour. The Gondola has replaced the solar chairs and the wizard and also connects to the village gondolas and to the peak 2 peak-all told it is a 12 kilometer circular lift system that is considered to be longest in the world. To make life easy one can buy the Vail’s Epic Pass which provides unrestricted and unlimited access to Whistler Blackcomb and can also be used on many other Vail properties. In addition, Epic pass holders will receive 7 days of skiing at Fernie Alpine Resort, Telluride, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Stoneham, Nakisha and Mont St Anne.
Whistler is located about 120 kilometers from downtown Vancouver and features more than 200 marked ski runs, more than a dozen alpine bowls and over 3000 hectares of snowy terrain.

Another great place for snow sports is BIG WHITE. The place has undergone major upgrades over the past few years. Now there is a new Leitner Poma lift which carries nearly 1900 passengers every hour. In addition, the ski tunnel has been made wider to accommodate more foot and ski traffic. Big white is located about 60 minutes from Kelowna and is a family friendly ski resort. There are plenty of places to eat and stay in and around Big White.
Big White boasts over 118 designated ski runs and 15 lifts with over 25 kilometers of combined wilderness and Nordic tracks. In addition, it is one of the few places that offer night skiing terrain.
Both the above places offer rental gear at affordable prices. From January to March, it is peak season and to avoid the crowds, it is recommended that you go there during the weekday. Best times to avoid are the long weekends because both places are packed.
