May is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors in Vancouver and with the Victoria Day long weekend coming up, there are plenty of choices. For the movie-goers, remember every Tuesday is cheap movie night at most theaters throughout the lower mainland.
On Wednesday May 16, Paul Simon is having his Homebound Farewell tour concert at Rogers Arena. A word of warning- be on time as his concerts, they are always jam-packed. For the soccer fans, the Vancouver Whitecaps also play on the same day against San Jose at the BC Place stadium.
On Thursdays May 17, is the Stars on Ice Show at Rogers Arena and will include performances by many Olympians like Kaetlyn Osmond, Tessa Virtue, Meagan Duhamel, Scott Moir and Patrick Chan.
On Friday May 18, the Royal Canadian Family Circus will run at the big top at Guildford Town Center in Surrey. Also on Friday May 18 through to May 21, is the Whistler Go Fest where you get to experience the great outdoors. Besides great food, there will be many events including music, sports and a variety of arts and culture events.
The four day Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair starts on May 18 and is a great family event. Cowboys from all over the nation will be competing for over $300,000 in prize money. At this family event fair, there will be a huge BBQ fest, lumberjack shows, country music and over a dozen thrilling rides.
Also performing over the long weekend will be Pharis and Jason Romero. This Juno Award winning duo will perform at St James Hall showcasing their exciting harmonic live show.
On Saturday May 19 will be the Vancouver All British Field Meet which will feature 100s of British built cars. The show will be held at VanDusen gardens.
If you have kids, then take them to Thomas The Train-this event takes place at the West Coast railway Heritage Park in Squamish, Book in advance as plenty of children show up each year.
Also taking place over the long weekend is the Vancouver Comics art festival at the Roundhouse in Yaletown and there is no charge for admission.
And if you just want to take it easy for the long weekend, Vancouver has plenty of gardens where you can enjoy the sun and just watch the people passing by. Or you can grab some of the local foods from the Farmers market and have a picnic at Stanley Park.
